A Cultural Critique
This series of photographs evolved from an interest in public forms of communication and expression.
What holds my interest in this body of work is how the dialogue between two photographs transforms their original intended meaning within the context of a cultural critique. Whether the pairing is the result of the same subject photographed at two points in time, the result of a change of position or the combining of images from different locations the perceptual process reminds me of looking at photographs of twins; first we notice the similarities, but we end up looking for the differences. The transformation of the subject’s original meaning takes place in the distance between the images.
I didn't go out looking for the subjects of these images. They are things that caught my attention as I went about my daily routine.
