Suspended

Suspended is an on-going portrait series that grew out of photographing adolescents over many years, at a time when we are perceptibly caught between independence and reliance, responsibility and leisure, maturity and innocence. The relationship with my growing children and those around me continually spark a wonder and passion for these beautiful, complex and transformative creatures. There is an interesting push and pull between what is revealed and withheld. I will often spend time observing both behavior and body language before deciding to photograph. I wish to show the disparate forces - both internally and those coming from their external worlds - that they are beset with at this age. These elements (awkwardness, sensuality, vulnerability) are very often transparent and may surface simultaneously. Interestingly, the power they posses is often only witnessed by the beholder.
