This body of work was taken just after Katrina struck New Orleans. I arrived in a small Bayou town called Chackbay which was to be my base as I photographed the effect of the hurricane on the big city of New Orleans but I became fascinated by the stories and undertones seeping out of small town Louisianan life. The welcome I received was wonderful but you were always aware of the history of the sugar plantations, the segregation and the tensions still alive in the region as a whole. The town itself thrived on a very close knit community where each family knew each other and had done so through numerous generations. In some ways it felt like a trip back in time for both good and bad reasons.
