The Sogdian Soul

Some say that the eye is the window to the soul. You can read the person's emotion just by looking in their eyes. Is it a real smile? Why is this person looking so sad at me? As a photographer I tried to capture moments in these people's daily activities. Preferably when they are not looking in the camera to give an objective visualisation of their daily activities. In contrast: as a human being I tied to connect with these people. Being there physically as a person gave me the opportunity to look into the soul of the people who live in the Yagnob Valley in Tajikistan. This is one of the few places on earth where the ancient 'Sogdian' language is spoken, one of the few places where you can look into the Sogdian Soul.
