This series is a photographic exploration of identity through age specific perceptions of achievement and success.
It stems from my own uncertainty based around my position in life, in comparison to those close to me, of the same age. I feel a growing need to address these anxieties and explore whether others of my age experience these same confused feelings as failure or social displacement.
Consequently, I have based my study on friends of mine who were born in 1990, the same year as myself. The project examines the way in which a select group of adults in their mid twenties identify success through their achievements and individual values. It draws on my personal experiences and as a result is focused on a chosen community of friends from a small rural city with white, upper-middle class backgrounds.
In an attempt to define my own success I asked my friends to respond to two personal questions. I asked them how did they define success? And where did they place themselves within their own notions of success? I used these questions in an attempt to understand their views of success and to help me to design an image for each person.
