I initially started this project as an exploration and documentation of an abandoned space, just looking to capture the decay and breakdown of a building that once housed many patients. Through the process my project became more about the reason for demise than the building itself. This lead me to learn about the lack of funding given to mental health facilities as well as the lack of knowledge about the topic itself. As a result of these issues many hospital wings get shut down, and the general absence of services leaves mental health on the back burner. The place I visited really displayed this problem in its deterioration, so i felt that documenting these uninhabited rooms that still show moments of occupancy could shed some light on the situation.
