George Brich Artist Statement
CarScapes, my current work, is a blend of my vision as an artist and my vast experience as a photojournalist where today,I observe the unobserved in life. It is the ordinary which glues our lives together.
While cars are everywhere, it is their random placement as objects of art within the environment that is intriguing. I sense beauty here expressed by the formal elements of structure and substance.
Many years of documenting popular culture has also given me the visual fuel to see beyond the beauty to an understanding of the scene as a social observation of our time.
My photographs within CarScapes embrace color more than ever before.
Their juxtaposition is another element that further inspires me. To quote Hans Hofmann: "The whole world, as we experience it visually, comes to us through the mystic realm of color".
When all this comes together, then I photograph it.
