I submit segments of my first solo exhibition. The exhibition is based on an ongoing theme project that I will tend to enrich as time goes by.
It incorporates a certain direction towards my life and style from now on.
It is divided into four sections, which collaborate together into a certain direction, chronologically and aesthetically. Direct- theme title of the project- isn't a random title. The word direct has two basic meanings, among others. One referring to the direction one follows literally, moving into a straight line without changing course. The other one is used as an adjective for a person who is free in expressing one’s feelings and emotions. Four elements of life (air, earth, water and fire- depicted metaphorically with the use of the Church-, are incorporated here. The project is divided into sections, Voyage, direct traveling, by ship or by yacht, what drives you and what is driven, the ground and the air, used as mental pictures of being grounded but also looking beyond and above. The deconstruction of the Past, the reconstruction of Self. The arrival and maybe some possible Salvation or personal Catharsis. I'm using the simplicity of the imaging to create a whole statement. Nothing very complicated for the viewer to understand.
I close here a personal chapter in my life, towards a new phase of “serenity”, a course of direction with a certain personal directness , moving into new paths, using my origins as a mental and literal image, as well as my godfather’s birthplace, where the exhibition took place for the first time.
I added a photo that it moves into a new territory (black masts with the greek flag) exploring this theme even further: Directing our Nation towards a better future. Also here I found interesting the incorporation of Greek Mythology. (According to Greek mythology when Aegeas saw the black sails flowing open he jumped in the waters, mistakenly believing his son is dead. Theseus forgot to follow his father's instructions but it was too late. Aegean Sea was named after this event. One of the many other mythologies around the name. Archipelago was the original one. ) Greece is in and under a process of a "reshape". At the moment as the picture I'm referring depicts the intercepted lines but the "black masts" are wrapped and we sail towards a better-but still gloomy- future.
