Playing with the short focal length of macro photography I look for color harmonies to use as compositional studies in events of refraction in the everyday objects around me. In my color fields series, I am looking specifically for abstract and nonrepresentational arrangements of color and texture that remind me of other art mediums. Like grainy intaglio prints, the nubby texture of pastels on rough paper or the traces of colored pencils being blended and the residue of oil pastels, the sediment trails of a watercolor wash, the build-up of opaque layers of gouache and other marks suggestive of pigment being manipulated with a tool that is often visible in monotypes and all variety of painting.
