These images are a study of space, in particular the functional spaces of a Theatre. They use the functional apparatus of theatrical staging as a metaphor for the manipulation of reality by social and perceptual forces, ordinarily concealed from our awareness. The normally hidden machinery of the theatre, what drives the spectacle, stands for the social and economic forces that shape our lives. The work depends on the unstable character of the spaces themselves, defined by the play between reality and illusion.
These spaces work towards creating a version of reality that appears more real than reality itself. They pose questions about the nature of what we observe, what we see is never just what we see.
