The larger someone appears on my frame the more responsibility I have. I feel the urge to be generous with the subject, but on the other hand my camera cannot lie. It is in the honest encounter of our souls, mine and the subject’s, that a true representation of the self materializes.
When photographing people, I do it with my eyes wide open, as if the intimacy of our eye contact allows me to enter into their inner nature. It is in the small, often unperceivable, details that I find my inspiration. The simple gestures of a hand, the slight tilt of the head, the contour of an emerging smile, or the intensity of the stare can all be infinitely telling. They all contribute to a truthful composition. However, is not only the physical attributes that builds the image; it is often in the empty spaces that the essence emerges.
