I strive to capture emotions in the eyes and faces of my portrait subjects. Whether it is a quiet fear, uncertainty, the excitement of an athletic event or contest, boredom, or the pleasure of a habit .... this element is necessary for the success of a portrait. I don't think I coax these expressions out of my subjects. I enable them. If you take a some time to establish a little rapport with your subject, when you raise your camera, the suspicion goes away, and the subject tells his story to you.
