Stand Still encompasses a feeling of opposition to the organic nature of growth that needs to be present in the continued development of a romantic relationship. I have created this work as a visual diary, a way of documenting my experiences to later serve as a source of truth for myself when all I’m left with is an impression. Making the work also allows for me to process the experience through visual metaphors, a method I have found to be less straining than applying a typical thought process to each individual experience. The repetition of the printing process used within this work juxtaposes what is typical of relationships - they aren't predictable or formulaic in the way an established system can be. I find solace in the semi-predictable nature of any repetitive process I employ within my work as a way of balancing the unpredictable nature of relationships. Stand Still has opened my eyes to what I truly value and respect in myself and in others I keep close to me.
