Hinterland - 1993 - 2014

Mountain farmers in high altitude environments have been hit especially hard by the crisis in the agriculture sector over the last decades. They're suffering a double handicap due to their tough living conditions. Despite the hard work they struggle to make ends meet. These images represent a small selection of photographs taken from of a longtime project about alpine agriculture, focussing on the daily life conditions of men and animals in not so remote Swiss mountain areas. For the realization of this ongoing project I chose a photographic practice without artificial lighting using medium format cameras and analogue silver gelatin film. "Hinterland" has been awarded Swiss Press Photo Prize 2014 in the category "Reportage".
