The Himalayan Cataract Project works to eradicate preventable and curable blindness in the developing world.
They make a week long outreaches to remote areas in Ethiopia. This is in Bisisdimo, close to the somalian border.
An assembly line of blind people are hurdled through to cataract surgery. Most of patient have been blind for a number of years and are an involuntary burden to the family. Often a child is taken out of school to care for the blind, losing a chance for an education. During the outreach the organisation managed to give 1200 people back their sight and a chance to reliving. A cataract surgery cost 25 dollars.
