Sinai slum, Nairobi, KENYA, 29.10.2013: Schoolchildren attend math class at Jobenpha Community School. Mr. Joseph Owegah, the chairman and one of the founders of the school, built the school in 2000 with only 40 pupils attending. Today there are 940 children who are taught by 14 teachers.

Sinai slum, Nairobi, KENYA, 29.10.2013: A boy in a wheelchair is begging in an alleyway of Sinai Slum. Sinai is part of the Mathare slum collection with an estimated population of 600.000. Many children who live here do not attend school to help their struggling parents make an additional income.

Kibera slum, Nairobi, KENYA, 06.11.2013: Quintor Adhiambo (17) and Victor Odhiimbo (19) at dance rehearsals of Waasani theatre group. Quintor left school in 7th grade after her father passed away. Her mother is unemployed and couldn't afford to further pay for her education. Through support from the group, which kept her away from bad company, she now attends a hairdressing course.

Kijiji slum, Nairobi, KENYA, 07.11.2013: A group of children stand next to a sewage channel built by Tegemeo (“Depending on us”) youth group. The group of young adults dug sewage drains, built bridges to cross those to minimize disease and infection risk, initiated garbage collection, a recycling centre, and organized access to fresh water.
