Skin is between us and the world. It is the appearance that the world sees, it’s our first point of contact and defines beauty in our age. We make assessments about a person from this physical appearance. Skin is both matter and symbol and is a big part of our expression as human beings.
I embarked on the skin story project to explore the issues of skin, beauty and self-confidence pertaining to womanhood. I wanted to explore the dialogue of the role of skin in a literal and metaphorical sense.
In the project I photographed various women with different skin types focusing on skin as a form of expression, it's role in identity, it's texture and it's representation of beauty.
