About Zula Rabikowska

Zula Rabikowska is a Polish, queer visual artist based in London. Zula was born in Poland and grew up in the UK. Her practice is influenced by her experience of migration and coming out as non-binary and queer in a religious homophobic environment.

Zula explores themes of displacement, gender identity and LGBTQI+ communities, to bring visibility to their experiences and contribute to ending discrimination and criminalisation of LGBTQI+ communities. Zula seeks to offer a space for conversation and community building.

Zula works with multimedia, film, digital and analogue photography, and incorporates archival images and documents to challenge conventional visual story-telling norms. Zula examines historical and political events in Poland, Central and Eastern Europe and their impact on and identity.

Zula works as a photographer and photography lecturer at Kingston University. Zula has an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography from the London College of Communication, and in 2020, she co-founded the Red Zenith, a platform for supporting women and non-binary people with a link to Central and Eastern Europe.
