Amanda Marchand is a Canadian, New York-based photographer. Her work explores the human condition through the poetics of landscape with an experimental approach to photography.
Honors include - PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris 2020 - honorable mention; BarTur Photography Award - shortlist, 2020; the International LensCulture Art Awards 2019 - 3rd Place; Klompching Gallery’s FRESH 2019 - Honorable Mention; “Curator's Choice, 2nd Place - CENTER’s Choice Awards, 2015; grants from the Quebec Council of Arts and Letters; and the San Francisco Art Institute Graduate Fellowship Award. She has exhibited internationally in solo and group shows. Her work is represented by Traywick Contemporary, Photo-Eye: Photographer’s Showcase, and Foto Relevance.
A large part of Marchand’s art practice includes photobooks. Her monographs, Nothing Will Ever be the Same Again (2019), and Night Garden (2015) were published by Datz Press. She has also produced limited edition artist books: The World is Astonishing with You in it: A 21st Century Field Guide to the Birds, Ferns and Wildflowers (2021); The Book of Hours (2018); Because the Sky (2017). Her series 415/514 was published by Edition One Studios (2009).
Marchand is a MacDowell Colony and Headlands Center for the Arts Fellow. She has also attended residencies at Datz Museum, the Hermitage Artist Retreat, the Studios at MASS MoCA, The Bakery Photo Collective, Hewnoaks Artist Colony, and Arteles Creative Center (Finland). Marchand is the author of the book of fiction, without cease the earth faintly trembles (DC Books, 2003) awarded "Critic's Pick" by NOW Magazine.
