I’m an Indian born photographer. I've lived and worked in Mumbai and London. Since 2004 my work was revolved around several aspects of photography, from Fashion projects to Food and Product photography. However, since 2009, I have attempted to redirect myself and learn more about art photography.
I have shifted my focus to portraits and the issues posed by the concepts of Identity and Image. Having a keen fondness for portraitures and the traditional aesthetics of painting and deriving from my own research on ideas of ‘absorption’ and ‘theatricality’, I have tried to combine the Visual act of seeing and being seen with the psychological influence of the camera as a medium between audience and subject. This interplay of relationships between subject, viewer, camera and photographer is what interests me and defines my work as I explore what Arbus describes as the “gap between intention and effect”..
My images do not provide answers but signify the everlasting struggle to define who we are and what forms we take.
What I have achieved, in undertaking this project, is the confidence I've found in the bold language of my work and I believe I have come full circle in my journey of developing my own relationship with photography.
