About Luis Cobelo

Born in 1970 in Venezuela
Degree in Philosophy from the University of Zulia, Venezuela.
He was raised and became a photographer between Venezuela and Spain.
Working independently across borders since 2001, Luis develops
documentary projects in the Americas, Asia and Europe, and has been
published in many magazines and newspapers worldwide.
From 1993 to the present has participated in numerous art exhibits and
photography festivals worldwide.

His work is focused on South American culture, where he created his first
photo-book “Zurumbático”, to reveal the magical spirit of this part of the world.
The book has fascinated people around the globe, and the exhibition of this
work has traveled across oceans ( between 2017 to the present) to Italy,
México, the United States, Spain, Costa Rica, Portugal, Venezuela and the
Netherlands.
His second photo-book “Chas Chas”, is another collection of fantasies,
mysteries and magical stories from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He presented
the exhibition in Palermo, Italy, in the summer of 2020 and will be exhibit in
Riaperture Foto Festival in Ferrara, Italy in September 2021.
The ongoing third project “ Te Amo” ( a collection of 10 publications) explores
certain aspects (from a personal, sarcastic, serious and ironic perspective) of
Latin American machismo through the Mexican fotonovela and some other
countries in the region.
He is based in San Francisco, California.
