Maria Karkanaki (b. 1976) is a Greek photographer, born and based in Crete. She studied Graphic Design in Bournemouth University of England. Her involvement in photography started in 2014. She took part in numerous workshops with important photographers in order to develop and deepen her own photographic interpretation. Her work deals with contemporary social issues through a subjective approach, in order to unlock hidden realities and explore lost identities. She is interested in typologies and obsessions of human behaviour and how people experience life and interact within the constraints of time and space. She is currently working on a long-term project «Eleni», concerning the documentation of οlder women’s life.
