About Axelle EMDEN
Axelle Emden graduated in Philosophy and holds a Master in Political Studies (Centre Aron, EHESS) and in Comparative Sociology and Politics (Sciences-Po Paris).
After a dozen of years dedicated to Research (CADIS-CNRS, CEVIPOF) and Journalism (Figaro, Nouvel Economiste, Evene...), she decides to dedicate her time to Photography and fiction writing in 2013.
For a couple of years, she worked mainly on democracy and media, especially the French and the American "models". Being the sociologist Alain Touraine's T.A. for two years, she also worked on gender studies, and in particular on muslim laic french women (Le Temps des Femmes, Alain Touraine, Fayard, 2007).
She launches a webmagazine dedicated to cultural events in 2008 (arts, music, theater, books...), that she will run until its closing in 2011. The experience leads her to write for a variety of magazines, galleries and institutions, and to curate two exhibitions in 2011, for My Private Art Room and the Village Royal (Paris). Axelle was also part of the jury of the first Eurazeo Photography Prize the same year.
Doing photography since 2007 when she travels (China, Egypt, Morocco...), Axelle publishes her first photos as a journalist around 2009 - mainly concerts. Three years later, realizing she doesn't want to keep her images for herself, she becomes Jethro Massey's assistant on several projects (films and photo shoots).
Hard to classify, her work includes portraits, documentary photography, still photos and several reflections around the body.
