Having grown up in one of the planet’s most biodiverse and culturally-diverse nations, Anamaria has cultivated an intense interest in both the natural world — and wildlife in particular — as well as for identity and cultural manifestations, keen to celebrate the power of diversity in our increasingly homogenous world.
She is driven by an insatiable curiosity, born from her early explorations of the Andes, the Amazon, and the Galapagos Islands, and by an indomitable passion for understanding, then sharing what she has captured with a wider audience. Her portrayal of the women she has met across the globe has also become an important part of her calling, forming an ongoing, empathetic project.
As the environmental crisis has grown, she has found herself employing photography more politically, as a tool for raising awareness. Whether as a mother of children learning about the world, a teacher of her craft, or an exhibitor of her work, her exaltation of the natural world has increasingly become a cry for awareness and for change. If her work can play a part in making us reflect on our responsibility to the planet more deeply, then she feels her efforts will have been worthwhile.
